The HALM story

• Daily around three billion plastic straws used and then thrown away. This corresponds to the weight of about 500 orca whales! On average, a straw is only 15 minutes used.
• However, it takes 300 to 500 years, until a plastic straw decomposes. During decomposition, it does not disappear without a trace, but instead turns into microplastics. These particles end up in the soil, in the ocean, in our food chain, and ultimately in us.

For us, it was clear: Dwe have to change that! We started looking for alternatives. They were diverse: from paper and metal to bamboo and straw. However, each alternative came with some disadvantage.

Finally, we realized that glass is the best alternative to plastic:
Reusable, flavor-neutral, easy to clean and hygienic.

So we founded in Year 2016 Our start-up HALM. At first, we had to do a lot of convincing, as glass straws were still completely unknown. Initially, we went from bar to bar and restaurant to personally present our innovation. However, the unbeatable advantages of our product quickly spread.

Meanwhile, many count Thousand gastronomy businesses to our customers and there are our HALM drinking straws at countless merchants to buy - from the small zero-waste store to the large supermarket.

We can avoid over a ton of plastic per day - an enormous amount! It quickly becomes clear that the plastic straw is not just a minor evil, but really adds up. And that motivates us, HALM further into the world to wear and reach even more people.
